GameConvention - 8 November 2008
Intro
Saturday was an early day for Clanleader BeLZeBuB and Captain gt_500.
They both headed towards Belgiums capital, Brussels to meet and make
a report on the GameConvention itselfs.
BeLZeBuB sat in the car with ComeAndGoo, at that stage not a member yet.
The Convention was held in front of Belgiums most famous statue, The Atomium.
The entrance of Brussels Expo, where the convention was held is really big
Entrance
Meeting
It was around 8.30 GMT Time
where BeLZeBuB and gt_500 (here on the front, left) met.
We also walked by TeamOPM ...
...and some famous guys
Lara Croft was also there
You think she wasnt? Who's this then...?
Games
Hundreds of games were ready to be played. We didnt test all the games,
but picked out the most interesting games. Little Big Planet and Resident Evil 5
were playable but we spend our time on other games. Farcry 2 and PES 09 were also
present but they are already released so it is not necessary to sum up some things about them.
Before I take you with me on my trip, I am going to tell you the bad news first, answering the question
"What about HOME and KillZone 2?" My answer is: The absence of Sony probably led to no information
on PS3 in general and HOME, KZ2 and God of War 3.
Ubisoft had alot to show, except for HAWX and End War. They just had a trailer. Same goes
for 'I Am Alive', magnificant graphics, its hard to say wheter its real or not.
But dont worry, we have other information that might interest you.

Call of Duty 5 :World at war
First game in the line, was the prequel of the succesfull CoD 4, World at War.
It was a dark, but cool corner, showing trailers on two HDTV's.
We were first to test it, and was BeLZeBuB the very first one of the whole
convention that tested CoD 5 (Xbox360).
It was forbidden to take any apparature inside the playcorner, but that
wasnt enough to prevent IdS from taking a picture, or two.
Singleplayer
The Story Mode took off with a movie that showed us mother earth. Ereas were marked red, if
they were active in WW II, as we flew over the earth. We stopped moving above Japan.
This is were Call of Duty 5 starts. At a beach. this sounds stereotype to previous WW II shooters, but
it is not. No heavy machinegun fire crossing the whole beach, from the land to the sea. You just wake up in a cabin,
and what you get for breakfast is a Japanese high ranked military who cuts somebody's throat. He trows you into the fight
while its still dark. The whole beach is lightened because of fire and if you think beaches are silent places
where only lovers meet, then you are totally wrong. No sleep for a soldier. It is hard to find cover, especially with
Xbox360 controls but after a minute you are used to it. No modern scopes, while zooming in, but just the
very old 'iron sights'. There is more chaos than the Singleplayer of CoD 4, but the rest seems basically the same.
The recoil of the guns makes ot all realistic like it should be.
Multiplayer Splitscreen 1v1
Let us say that World At War is innovating, regarding the Campaign mode of the Multiplayer.
No versus mode, but the ability of playing trough the whole campain, together with a mate.
This is the only new thing, compared to Modern Warfare. The absence of bots whilst playing versus
is still a must I think. New maps may force CoD 4 players to make the step to CoD 5.
Doesn't Treyarch have to come over the bridge with something more? Well basically yes.
7 Kill Streak leads to dogs instead of choppers, but still, that isnt enough. If you bear in mind
that the 5th Call of Duty in line is a sort of an expansion pack, than its a cool adventure.
Sticking to CoD 4 will not let you down in away, you won't miss a thing imo.
The multiplayer Split Screen mode looks very similar to his older brother, CoD 4.
You select your mode, such as Free For All (=Standard Deathmatch), TDM, or
one of the other modes that are already known.) We played Cliffiside and Asyllum.
The graphics of Cliffside were not worldshocking. asyllum looked better though.
Just like in CoD 4, you are first attempt to select a class, wich is limited to the online classes.
You have more perks, and I wasnt informed enough to know wich symbol was what perk. I did
notice that there were more perks than in MW. It looked like it takes longer to kill somebody, but
you are now able to choose how your screen is devided while playing with a mate.

Resistance 2
We spend alot of time playing this game. It should have been something around a total
of one hour where we tested the co-op mode of this game.
In order to play the campaign mode on cooperative, you must select the look of your character after
you have selected your class. We could pick 'Soldier', 'Doctor' or 'Special Ops'. Soldier was the HeavyGunner,
Doctor was able to heal, adn Special Ops had a cool weapon that bursts while shooting. You can then equip
yourself with extra ammo or something. On the movie, player 1 plays with Soldier and Player two (me) has
selected Special Ops. No dramatic chances, comparedto Resistance Fall of Man. R1 allows you to shoot,
and L1 is your secondary fire button. Cirlce button is stillthe grenade button, although with the
Special Ops class, you throw yourself and your mate some ammo.
L2 has now become a sprint button, and your sprint ability is set to infinite.
The green shield from the Auger (that we know of Fall of Man), can pop up while being 'Soldier' and
have L2 pressed quickly. Alot of enemies make use of this shield as well. Okay, I admit, the game
hasn't made any improvement regarding graphics, but I bet this game is a wet dream for every
weapon freak.
When shooting an enemy, XP points appear on your screen, until he is dead. With those points,
you can go up in rank. I do not know, for what purpose these levels are introduiced, but
its should be something like better weapons or more equipement.
The healing system is still the same. Once one of the two players drops dead, he has
to wait around 20 seconds in order to respawn. his mate that is still alive can go near him, and
press triangle to let the seconds count down faster. If he drops dead before player one died, its game
over.
Me and my comrade playing the game in co-op
Our scores were pretty sweet. BeLZeBuB represented Player 2.

FEAR 2: Project Origin
A spooky entrance guided our way towards the consoles where FEAR 2 could be tried out.
To eventually smell teh fear, they darkened the playroom
We spawned somewhere, at an unknown place, and an unknown time
in the game. The only thing we know is that its dark in the room
where we play and that its a dark world in FEAR 2. A small way leads us trough the underground.
Before taking the stairs, we hallucinate and see a girl in a red light. Altough I think that is the
image we get, because its not clear and it doesnt take long. as the view dissapears, we move on.
Once outside, we noticed that the sun has forgotten to show up. The few lights make us clear
that we are finding ourselfs in a narrow street. Without using SlowMotion, we discover its hard
to stay alive and shoot two enemies. The sound is really good. We pick up a sniper rifle and shoot
a guy at a roof. We switch back to our machine gun. We better wouldn't have done that, we realised.
A laser is pointing our way and we know there is a second sniper, located abit further away in the street.
We wanted to hide behind one of the many wrecked cars but (forgotten to use SlowMo), we droped hard.

Fallout 3
Ubisoft, the 2nd biggest publisher that was present (after EA) performed well with showing
off the beautiful FarCry 2. Many people were lurking at Ubisoft, probably for the gadgets.
Next to FarCry 2, Naruto and the new Brothers in Arms, there was Fallout 3.
Fallout 3 was really dissapointing. I kept teling yself, it probably had to do with the part
I played on that moment, but still, those parts are part of the game, so in that way its good
I played a bad part. Every thing I heard about the game was satisfying, a FPS, but also an RPG.
I really don't like RPG's but I love FPS. From what I read about the game, I knew there was a chance
that it could confince me to buy it. Now that I have played it, I must review my opinion and see
this game is crap in my eyes.
from the moment I took the controller as it was mine, I was located in what looked like a modern flying ship,
from the inside. I was surrounded by scietists and the guy in front of me, appeared to be my dad.
Pressing X led to a conversation between father and son. Ater he said something I should know, Fallout gave 3 or 4 options
you could use as a reply. Luckelly you could skip the subtitles.
Picking the wrong one led to more boring speeches, but 'end conversation' was the best to pick
in order to discover more of the Fallout 3 world.
I headed towards a study room, where an examn was about to begin. The teacher asked me to sit down so
he could start with the questions. By pressing X, your character tried to talk to the girl who was sitting in front of him,
but she only replied wiith a furious:"I hope you weren't talking to me.'
The examn started and again you needed to pick an answer from a list you get. Pretty dumb
and thanks to this, the Fun-Factor went down alot.
one of the questions went like "What to do when you know a kid is in danger
and no supervisior is here. You do know that the kid had stolen money."
It was like a sort of a training you get, probably one of the first missions in th egame
I think there are better parts in this game, but with passages like this...

Prince of Persia (Next-Gen)
Prince of Persia, The Sands of Time was my very first PS2 Game.
It totally jinxed me and so did the prequel Warrior Within and the stunning end
of Prince of Persia in The Two Thrones. Never were Story and Gameplay so close to each other.
The games were all common in their own way. The prince rules in his genre, but soon, Ubisoft had
to share the throne with Sony's God of War.
For the PoP-Triology, it was come to an end. The Sands of Time, the wire trough the serie had time
to rest. now, a new Prince of Persia has to come, to conquer the Next-Gen consoles and the PC is allowed
as well to enjoy of the beauty of this game, ever since the very old 2D Prince.
Again, Ubisoft promises to make a unique gameplay experience, mixed with a really nice story.
Okay, the story of PoP was suberb, I can hardley describe it, in what way the game played
with time, and its consequences. In the new Prince of Persia, the sands are mentioned again.
So, is my story not done yet or is PoP a whoe new experience. They will not unfold the story that fast, but
the gameplay looks attractive, but with less combat, it seems and a more cell-shaded look. More commercial in a way.

James Bond: Quantum of Solace
Electronic Arts was merkable, showing that they had more money than th eres tof the
publishers.
Lets talk about the game iitself. The Bond game Goldeneye has already a place in heaven,
and I also remembered myself playing 'James Bond: The world is not enough' for PSone.
The world is not enough, starring Pierce Brosnan in third-person view, and the latest PS2 Bond Game,
'From Russia with Love', starring Sean Connery, ALSO in 3rd person view.
We played a singleplayer part, as we were located in a basement. We had no special gadgets,
and so we didnt even noticed playing a Bond-Game. If not for the gadgets a 007 normally has, it must have
been the first person view this time that did his job more than good. the aiming went smooth, and by taking cover
you could sneak around the corner, in third-person. This game looked like a Rainbow Six game more than it was Bond.
Maybe two remarks. The AI need to be fixed abit, as well for the power of your shotgun. Yes indeed, the shotty is overpowerd.
Not that I am to worried about that, but its for the online part that I am more concerned.
If this new first person view is an improvement...its up from player to player. Maybe EA want sto attract players
who are bored with the 3rd person, or they want to make it more accessibile.

Other consolesGears of War 2
IdS is a PS3 clan, but that doesnt thake the beauty of this game away.
The Gears are back again, to face the battle versus the Locust on Sera.
Why these creatures want to take the Humans part of the planet
stays unknown but the feeling of GoW is back, and that is the only
thing that counts.
Just like the prequel, this game is all about taking cover, humour and brutality.
The story is more cruel this time and starts where GoW 1 has ended. Cover is most importent
and in GoW 2, you will face soem 'living cover'...
The cool execution styles are more brutal then ever, just like the story.
Offline envionments are creative and near the end there are some flying missions
to avoid the game from getting repetitive. Luckelly there are achievements, wich
are catchable, if you play the game long enough. Admit, you will get motivated
to play if you get an achievemtn for killing a certain amount of enemies or for finding a new
execution style. The one with the sniper is pretty cool, but you have to discover that for yourself.
Still, most things are stayed the same in this sequel. You can carry along 4 different type of weapons.
Two main guns, a Handgun and a type of a grenade. GoW 2 introduices the gas grenade.
A 5th weapon can be taken, like the mortar strike or a heavy machinegun, taken from a 'Grinder'.
You will drop this weapon, when switching guns.
Co-op
Most things are explained above, but I would like to add that this game is perfect to play
in co-op. Roads often seperate, and so you have to split up. Player 1 can choose what path he goes,
and so P2 takes the other way. The difficulty leverl can be chosen for each player. If P2 plays GoW
for his first time, he can easily take a lower difficulty level than P1.
Easy, Normal, Hardocre of Insane? still the same
Online
Gears of War 2 has indeed made improvement, whilst looking at the first GoW.
The weapons are more balanced and the modes are worked out better.
We haven't seen so many maps, but from what kind of maps we did see, I can only tell
there is not alot of variation in the development of the maps.
The modes can be devided into two groups basically; the ones where you only
got one live every round and the other ones, where you have more than one live.
A very cool mode of the second group mentioned is called 'Guardian'. Every team
has its own Leader, he has only one live. The other members of the team can keep spawning, with
a respawn delay of a certain amount of seconds. The main objective of both teams
is to kill the leader of the opposing team. Finding him is not so hard, because its indicated in the top
left corner of your screen.
If your mate has a XBL Gamertag, you can play with two people on one console.
This gets interesting for a mode called 'Wingman'. 5 Teams of each two players play
Team Deathmatch with one live, each round. As always, you can revive your wingman, so
sticking together would be a nice option. If you mate doesn't have a XBL account, you can still
play online, but only Private Matches.
Some modes require that a player can not be killed unless you stand next to
him, to finish him with an execution move. This is only needed if the player is not yet blown up
or chainsawed. the gas and smoke grenades are pretty effective, and pushing 'B' will let
you plant the grenade onto a wall, so it will work like a claymore.
The first Gears of War, online, was plagued by the immense 'rolling' and shotgun and tbh,
this one also got a plague, but its less worse.. In my opinion it takes to long to kill an enemy.
Mostley you get killed by grenades or even worse chainsawed. No matter how long you keep shooting
and hitting the enemy, you will get smashed down or chainsawed.
Maybe dieing is an advantage, because when in spectator mode you can take picutres
and upload them to the GoW-site.
It does nto matter if you are already proud owner of GoW 1 or not. This game is enjoyable for
both types of players. But my advice: are you an online player that hasnt got GoW 1, stick to CoD 4
or better buy the upcoming CoD 5 for the offline part. And the latter also has a co-op campaign mode!
Wii
Wii and PSP didnt really get our attention, although you could see Wii everywhere.
PSP
Regarding PC Gear, you had some RTS and RPG games, such as World of WarCraft
and Lord of The Rings.
There were some games that could be played in versus mode on a big screen.
First game was the famous Call of Duty 4. if it wasnt for PC, me and gt_500 would have
taught them a lesson they would never forget! xD.
Technology
Do you ever get annoyed by people walking in front of your screen whilst
watching a video? This problem is getting solved thanks to special glasses, wired with
USB, that you plug into your PS3. Trough the glasses we were able to see Quantum of
Solace, the newest film of James Bond. The sound came trough speakers, probably trough
a television.
With the eye on the future, automatism knew some fame on the covention.
No picture to embarres, but there was a girl caressing a robot animal; like it was a real one.
Where is this world going to, replacing mother nature by some wires?
Samsung gave away prices to people who set the best times in a Xbox360 Racegame.
Best time was set at around 56 seconds. My time was 57.700. In order to receive a price,
I had to be 0.100 seconds faster :(.
XL Gaming
OPM and CHIEF (organisators previous GameConvention) had a program worked out,
regarding Sgaming (Supersized Gaming, XL Gaming). This is how the program looked like.
At the left side, you see the program for Saterday 8 November. Time is GMT+1.
I was able to take a look at Mirror's Edge, what really looks cool imo, especially on
a hughe screen.
The actions you perform in First Person look damn pleasing.
you tumble alot, and thanks to the dot in the middle of your screen, you don't get dizzy.
Combat System looks cool and the environment creative. The most of te time, we spent on the
rooftops, jumping from one platform to another, beating up a typical guy in a suit and with sunglasses
and start running again. Objects that can be used are often marked red in the 'white world'.
